White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is REALLY going to regret ever whining about how she was discriminated against when a Virginia restaurant owner refused to serve her.
Last night, Sanders and her family were turned away from the Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia — giving Sarah a little taste of what it’s like to be a minority living under a bigoted and oppressive administration. Today, she whined about the incident on Twitter and tried to use her platform to punish the restaurant. Huckabee Sanders wrote:
Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”
Let’s just say Sanders is going to regret that. The owner of the Red Hen has spoken out at the height of the controversy and it’s everything we’ve been waiting for. Explaining why she kicked the press secretary out of her restaurant, owner Stephanie Wilkinson said she had no regrets. Wilkinson stated that although her establishment is now being attacked by angry Trump supporters and may suffer financially, she would do it again in a heartbeat. She told the Washington Post:
I’m not a huge fan of confrontation. I have a business, and I want the business to thrive. This feels like the moment in our democracy when people have to make uncomfortable actions and decisions to uphold their morals.”
Wilkinson explained that she’d been home when she got a call from her staff that Huckabee Sanders was dining at the restaurant, which at first had gone under the radar because she’d booked the reservation using her husband’s name. Wilkinson raced to the restaurant to deal with the issue.
Once at the restaurant, Wilkinson polled her employees about a solution, due to the fact that many were gay and most were uncomfortable with the way Sanders had been defending Donald Trump’s inhuman border separation policy. Wilkinson said to her employees:
Tell me what you want me to do. I can ask her to leave.”
The staff voted yes. Wilkinson then asked the press secretary to step outside “for a word.” Wilkinson explained:
I was babbling a little, but I got my point across in a polite and direct fashion. I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty, and compassion, and cooperation.”
After her explanation, Wilkinson politely said, “I’d like to ask you to leave.”
While Huckabee Sanders cooperated, gathered her belongings and left the restaurant, she made an attempt to ruin the restaurant’s reputation on Twitter later. Despite the backlash the restaurant is getting, Wilkinson stands by her decision. She said:
We just felt there are moments in time when people need to live their convictions. This appeared to be one. Whatever happens, we will soldier on. Absolutely, yes, I would have done the same thing again.”
It’s about time the Trump administration got a taste of their own medicine.
